EPFO officials raid JLPL office and site, detect irregularities

A team of the regional office of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) raided the office and project site of Janta Land Promoters Limited (JLPL) in Sector 82 following complaints that the company was not extending the benefits of the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) to its employees.

The officials said that during the raid, they detected many irregularities in extension of the EPF benefits. The team also seized the documents of the company, which is owned by Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh.

According to the EPFO officials, they are conducting a drive, especially in the building and construction area, to ensure that all the workers get their statutory PF, pension and other allied benefits admissible under the Employees’ Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act. In this connection a raid was conducted by a team of officials of the regional office of EPFO, Chandigarh, headed by five Assistant PF Commissioners — Paripuran Nath, Mayank Bansal, Raushan Kumar, Siddhartha and Tej Pratap Yadav.

The officials said that during the raid, physical verification of approximately 400 workers was conducted at the project site and huge evasion in extension of EPF benefits was detected. The team seized various related records.

“Many of their workers belonging to various contractors of JLPL, namely Surya Construction, Zanders Construction, RKV construction, SVL Construction, Om Prakash Surender Kumar Construction etc. present on the project site stated that no PF was being deducted from their salaries, some of the authorities available at the site even refused receipt of the seizure memo, copies of which were pasted on the construction site itself,” said the EFPO officials.

The officials said that the regional office would scrutinise the records seized and would ensure that social security benefits were extended to all the employees who worked at the project site.

When contacted, Kulwant Singh said they had nothing to do with the PF as they had hired some contractors for arranging labourers for them and it was their responsibility to extend the PF benefits to the labourers.
